Renvale Ltd Increases Manufacturing Capacity With New ESD Protected Area

Renvale Ltd, the longest standing designer and manufacturer of bespoke wiring harness solutions to the Motorsport and Automotive industry. Their founder, Tony James, pioneered the use of military-style connectors on the Lotus-Cosworth T91. Since 1982 Renvale Ltd (previously known as Tony James Component Wiring) has built up an enviable client portfolio spread across F1, Formula-E, MotoGP, Superbikes, WRC, WTCR, WEC, IndyCar, and various GT formulae. As well as the above, Renvale has worked on specialist OEM projects including diversification into other sectors such as marine, automotive and R&D Test facilities. The Project Brief

Renvale Ltd was recently awarded a large contract to make CAN node modules, however as the internal electronics are highly sensitive and complex, they needed a complete ESD protected area to begin the manufacturing process. Renvale Ltd chose to work with Bondline Electronics Ltd for their installation because of Bondline’s renowned reputation and great price point. The client had also worked with Bondline previously at their former employer.

Preparation & Solution

Bondline went to initially discuss the client’s requirements, including their timescale and budget, and then suggested the best solutions to fulfil these. In order to meet the client’s requirements, a range of products would be needed to introduce ESD controls, including ESD flooring, ESD bench matting, ESD chairs, and ESD test meters. After liaising with the client, Bondline carried out a full site survey to assess the room and measure everything up. A quotation was produced and the order followed.

Bondline installed an ESD floor, ESD bench matting, ergonomic ESD chairs as well as ESD test meters to create a new ESD protected room. The interlocking ESD floor tiles were chosen as they were the easiest and quickest flooring option to install and no preparation was required to the concrete sub-floor. Bondline had numerous discussions with the customer and the client was happy with our recommendations.

The End Result

The installation was completed on time and exceeded the customer’s expectations. There were numerous products supplied, including:

• Interlocking ESD floor tiles
• Anti-static chairs
• Anti-static bench matting
• ESD test meters

Bondline were able to fully install one of their interlocking ESD flooring systems straight on top of the existing concrete floor. The floor tiles were quick and easy to install as no screed or use of any adhesives were required. This also meant that the surface below the floor would remain undamaged. The floor tiles were installed in a single day, meeting the client’s budget and time schedule.

Once the installation was complete, Bondline re-visited the client’s site to test and certificate all of the products. Everything was tested and certified in accordance with the IEC 61340-5-1 International Standard. The client ordered ESD floor cleaner and Staticide mat and table top cleaner as part of the aftercare to maintain the products’ longevity, resistivity and effectiveness. Overall, the customer is very pleased with everything Bondline achieved. With the construction of the new ESD control room and the ESD controls put in place, the customer now has a designated static controlled area which they can begin using at once for their project.
