ESD Shoe Technical Guidance
What Makes A Shoe ESD Protective?
Shoes are classed as ESD shoes when the on-state resistance value of the system person-shoe-floor is below 3,5 x 10^(7) resp. 35 MOhm according to EN 61340-5-1 (verification).
The qualification of the shoes is made depending on the climate classifications 1 (15% relative humidity), 2 (25% relative humidity) and 3 (50% relative humidity) according to EN 61340-4-3 < 10^(8) Ohm.
ESD shoes used for primary grounding in ESD areas must be selected in combination with an ESD floor covering. This will ensure the combined resistance to ground (Rg) is in the range required.
Measures Against Static Discharges Are Described In EN 61340-5-1
Effective personal grounding through the use of suitable static control footwear in accordance with EN 61340-4-3 serves to protect static sensitive components by continuously dissipating electrostatic charges.
Please note: ESD shoes are not suitable for electricians respectively when working on sources with electric voltage.
